Day 7/12 | Gaura Purnima & Holi Celebration
Following the Master | Holi Pilgrimage Vrindavan 2019
Today’s events were short but intense! As today was Gaura Purnima, as well as the main day of the Holi celebrations, we combined the two festivities into one big party! We performed abhishekam to the big deities and played Holi with them, which quickly started spreading to the pilgrims.
As soon as the abhishekam was done in the temple, the party moved on to an adjacent plot of land. When we got there, all pandemonium broke loose! The previous days we had experienced Holi with flowers and coloured powder, but this was the first time we added plenty of water to the mix. With Guruji wearing protective glasses and a turban to cover His hair, He was the leader of the party and everyone danced and sang ecstatically. The group’s stamina didn’t last too long, such was the intensity of the party, so by the time the last colours had been thrown and the last song sung, the devotees all scurried away to find the nearest shower. It was truly a sight to behold, the smiles and rainbow-coloured expressions on the faces of the pilgrims perfectly mirroring the happiness each one was feeling.
After lunch there was no official program for the rest of the day, and since the shops were also closed due to the chaotic nature of Holi, the devotees took the time to rest and recharge after three intense days of partying. Evening prayers took place as per usual, and the day that had started so vibrantly ended on a quiet note, with the devotees more than happy to go to bed early, ready to continue on with our pilgrimage tomorrow.
