#5 | Darshan in Belo Horizonte
Following the Master | South America Tour 2019
The day began with two lectures from Swami Revatikaanta at the university. The first was about what Hinduism can offer humanity in our modern times. Swami spoke about the need to establish a foundation of dharma in our lives before we pursue material goals such as artha and kama, citing how unethical and selfish modern societies have become. The second need is to have a transcendent aim, namely moksha. The aim of spiritual attainment adds purpose to life's trials and tribulations and unites people in a way few things can.
In his second talk, Swami spoke about the teachings of Bhakti Yoga, emphasising the value of pursuing real love (Prem), selfless service and surrender. The key to this is an understanding of God's all-pervading nature. If we understand He is everywhere, then Bhakti Yoga becomes the path in which we learn to love literally everything, serve always and live in connectedness, not separation.
After these two lectures, people started arriving for Darshan with Guruji. Guruji came on time and sang a couple of beautiful bhajans as He had no time to talk, given that we had the hall for 6 hours and He had around 1,000 people to bless! Devotees from several spiritual backgrounds as well as university students and teachers were in attendance. The Darshan flowed very nicely, with touching testimonies from various Brazilian devotees interjected with the distinctly Brazilian-flavoured kirtans. Guruji also performed 5 devotee initiations during Darshan itself. By the time Guruji finished Darshan, it was around 10pm, a good half an hour before we had to vacate the auditorium. Grabbing the opportunity, Guruji sang a couple more bhajans that absolutely rocked the crowd! Arati ensued and that marked the end of an extremely joyful Darshan in Belo Horizonte.
