#2 | Ashram in Cavalcante
Following the Master | South America Tour 2019
The public events of the day began with initiations into Atma Kriya Yoga level 2 in the afternoon. After Guruji quizzed the candidates on Kriya-related questions, He checked how disciplined they had been with the first level before granting them the permission to receive the second level. Several had been practicing for years every day, without fail, which pleased Guruji very much. After some time learning and practicing the new techniques, Guruji initiated almost 20 Kriya yogis into the second level.
Straight after the initiations, Guruji performed abhishekam to Giridhari and everyone was allowed to come and offer flowers to Him. As soon as the abhishekam ended, Satsang began. There were a little more than 100 people attending the Satsang, which filled the ashram hall to its capacity. Guruji began by asking the crowd how many of the attendees were from the local region - because on the way to the ashram from Brasilia, Guruji joked that he barely saw a single person in over 4 hours of driving! He was happy to see that people do in fact live in this area, and that this ashram will not be a secluded hermitage.
Guruji then began answering a variety of questions, starting with a request for Guruji to speak a little about Radharani. He spoke at length about Her, saying that if He wanted to, He could go on all night just about Her! In summary, Radha symbolises the longing, the faith and the Love of the heart, beyond the mind. In that sense, She exists in every one of us and it is only through Her that we truly come on to the most sublime path of Bhakti. Without an awakening of that taste inside of us, we can never truly engage in the worship of God with sincerity.
The next question was about exploring the relationship between seriousness and the Truth. The questioner explained that nowadays a lot of people can’t separate the two and we teach people to be closed, to be serious, to not experiment and enjoy life. Guruji responded by agreeing, remarking that once, someone had approached him saying, ‘You cannot be a “real” Guru because you are always smiling!’ Guruji asked the man if he would prefer if Guruji looked miserable and depressed instead! Guruji then clarified that in fact, seriousness is not necessary and it is not His way. Discipline, however, is necessary, and it is something entirely different than seriousness. We should learn to be happy, otherwise, after all these lives of trying to attain the Lord, when we finally arrive in front of Him, He will take one look at our dry, serious faces and run away!
Another question Guruji enjoyed answering was one about His opinion on transexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, etc. Guruji began by asking the audience, ‘When you meet someone, do you check what’s in their pants before greeting them??’ The world is full of judgment and it makes people live in perpetual fear. We often use judgment as a weapon to deflect the attention away from ourselves and our many deficiencies that we don’t want exposed. But why should we contribute to that negativity? We have to take responsibility for our role in promoting judgement, promoting negativity, and promoting division. Guruji called on everyone to honour their humanity and show the best of us by accepting people the way they are. Since we are so quick to judge, He wishes we would be as quick to accept too.
After answering many more questions, Guruji ended the evening by singing the names of Lord Hari and serving prasad to everyone.
